Euiwoong Lee named Edmund M. Clarke Doctoral Dissertation Award Recipient
Newly Established Departmental Dissertation Award has First Recipient

Recent Ph.D graduate, Euiwoong Lee, is the first recipient of the newly established Edmund M. Clarke Dissertation Award. Lee was advised by Computer Science Department Professor Venkat Guruswami and is currently doing postdoctoral work at New York University.
He successfully defended his thesis Optimal Approximabilities beyond CSPs (2017) expanding the frontiers of approximation algorithms with respect to the range of optimization problems as well as mathematical tools for algorithms and hardness.
"It is with great appreciation that the department thanks Ed and Martha Clarke for establishing this award. Thanks also go to the selection committee, Professors Mike Erdmann and Nancy Pollard, for their work selecting a deserving recipient", said Department Head, Frank Pfenning.
About This New Award
Martha, who was the department's Graduate Admissions Coordinator until her retirement in 2014, shared her husband's commitment to supporting our computer science doctoral students.
