GARY MILLER
Professor, Computer Science
www

My main interest is in algorithm design and parallel computation. For the last several years I have worked parallel algorithm design for problem arising in Scientific computation. This includes problems such as fast linear system solvers and mesh generators. Over the last several year our group has developed a large suit of fast and efficient algorithms for these types of problems.

Starting this year, in collaboration with faculty members Guy Blelloch, Bob Harper and Peter Lee, we have begun an ambitious project funded by the NSF to develop a Scientific computing package in a parallel extension of the language ML. I am very excited about this project for it will draw on the talents of the worlds best compiler, language, and parallel algorithm designers. We will be able to test and refine parallel scientific algorithms in a modern environment, as well as, tune the language and compiler to fit the applications.
