SCOTT E. HUDSON
Associate Professor, Human Computer Interaction

www

My research interests lie in the area of user interface software and technology. I am interested in creating tools and software infrastructure which make it possible to produce high quality user interfaces quickly and economically. This work includes the creation of innovative new interaction techniques for 2D and 3D interaction, development of advanced user interface toolkits, work in the use of constraint systems for user interface implementation, and higher level user interface specification tools.

I am also interested in using new media (such and audio and video) and new interaction modalities (such as pen-based interaction) to create new ways in which people can interact with computers. In this area I am currently working on new techniques for hybrid paper electronic interfaces. This work attempts to expand the usefulness of physical paper as an interaction medium by adding electronic capabilities to it such as searching, hyperlinking, and dynamic content. Finally, I am also working on new techniques for using audio and video communications to support awareness in distributed work groups.
