Phone Usage
Because of the University's billing limitations, each telephone can only
be charged to one FRAS center (see FRAS section
in this document). Faculty FRAS centers will be charged for equipment
and local calls for the faculty member and his/her technical staff and
visitors. Equipment and local calls for secretaries and RI graduate students
will be charged to the Institute. If personal calls have been made, you
are expected to pay for them each month when you get your phone bill.
Following are some instructions for dialing your phone to bill to other
accounting centers:
Outside local and long distance calls
(billed to FRAS center)
From all locations: dial 9 + 1 + area code (if needed) and the 7-digit
number. Long distance calls will be routed automatically and optimally
over the most cost-effective facilities (currently Sprint).
Direct billing of calls to research centers or other discretionary
centers (CDAR)
Those toll and long distance calls that are directly related to research
may be charged to a research center by dialing as follows:
- dial CDAR access code "119" (you will hear confirmation
tone followed by dial tone)
- dial 6- digit CMU accounting center number (Example 1-11111) (you
will hear dial tone)
- dial "9"
- dial "1 "+ desired telephone number including area code
(if needed)
